Ask Your Surgeon

  • What steps do you take to prevent postoperative discomfort and speed the healing process?
  • What kind of special approaches do you recommend for post-pregnancy or post-weight-loss patients?
  • Will liposuction be enough to accomplish my goals, or should I consider another procedure to address lax skin or muscle tissues?
  • May I meet with one of your previous liposuction patients to discuss their recovery and results?
  • Can your office help me find a financing option that is a good match for my budget?

Liposuction can correct a number of different treatment areas, so healing will depend on your procedure choices. The typical patient is back to work within days and is feeling fully recovered within a month. Extra healing time is required for complex procedures that address a number of different areas or include a tummy tuck or breast augmentation.

Your Procedure

Each liposuction patient has different expectations for how their procedure will change their shape, and a good surgeon will not only tailor your procedure to your needs, but also help you shape accurate expectations about what your surgery will achieve. Dr. Elluru and Dr. Holley have years of experience helping meet the needs of patients with different backgrounds, health histories, and personal goals, and they will be able to explain clearly the medical and aesthetic basis for the approach they suggest for you.

During your procedure, your surgeon will numb your treatment area and make incisions. Then your doctor will fill the area with a fluid solution. The solution further numbs the tissue, significantly limits blood loss, prevents bacteria growth, and loosens fat cells so they can be removed quickly with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues. Then the surgeon inserts a thin surgical tube called a cannula and suctions the unwanted fat out.

Once the treatment is complete, sutures and surgical dressings will be applied. Because liposuction involves relatively small incisions, any resulting scars are usually very minimal and inconspicuous. Learn more about your choices at the liposuction options page.
